Serendipity Doo Dah Day

In the name of love, one man in the name of love!

Okay, just had to get that out.

Had a great Pride Day yesterday. Hung out with a bunch of fags at Sara's house in FiDi, where I met Jeremy Redleaf who runs a site called OddJobNation.com. It's like a Craig's List strictly for odd jobs (of the non-sexual variety) which seems pretty brilliant in the wake of this recession. Jeremy's got a web series on there, and he told me that whilst he was on the search for a rapper to profile, his cousin sent him links to some of my stuff and said, "You gotta use this girl, she's awesome!" Why, thank you, cuz! The pleasure is all mine. (Also, are you single? No? Okay. No problem.)

My gal pal Jen Dziura just happens to live in the same building as Sara, so I got to see her place as well. (If you want a 25th floor balcony that'll give you vertigo, FiDi is the place to be.) Then I headed to Chelsea where a lovely Israeli man paid $10 to get me into 'g' so I could hang out with my gay husband Gabe. We danced to Lady Gaga by the entrance to the men's room, and I got several "Thank You for Being a Hag" nods from cute sailors as they swished by. Capped off the night with a trip to the West Village to listen to Glenn sing The Killers hit "All These Things That I've Done," which is better known for its ending lick, "I got soul, but I'm not a soldier," to which YouTube commenter "kc123456789101112" replied,

"i got kays but im not a kmart!"

Tonight I'm off to Soce's to record the new TMC/CKC blowup rockout jamblast with special guest star Deena Beena Steena making her R&B/hip-hop/neo-soul funk debut! I'll also be sitting in as Shockwave records the backup beatboxing to Track 5 on my debut album, "White Bitch," which you can see featured hard in my solo show BROWN AMBITION at 59E59's EAST TO EDINBURGH FESTIVAL. July 19 at 2 pm and July 21 and 22 at 9 pm. Spread the word and the love.

XO,
ckc

RIP, MJ.

Just a quick post for today. Obviously many more people will do a much better job of covering this than I, so I'm not even going to try to make a big deal about it, but the death of Michael Jackson is a shock and a relief and really sad yet fascinating stuff. I wonder what will happen with his kids (their mother signed her rights away?... so who will raise them now? Will she? Some other appointee? Joe Jackson? *shudder*). Will Paul and Ringo try to get the rights to the Beatles songs he owns? Will Neverland sell? Will the families who sued him presumably only to make money show some public remorse? What will the Jackson Family say?

This will be an interesting week.

Most importantly, what is Macaulay Culkin feeling???

Michael Jackson was a tortured soul, not so much by his own demons, but by the very same people who made him a superstar. He just wanted to be a fairy and flit around and be fabulous, but life is never that easy, is it?

May his final rest be as peaceful for him as his music and choreographic sensibility was genius.

TheaterMania blurb on Brown Ambition

I'm so psyched that TheaterMania reported on the East to Edinburgh Festival, something I'm enormously proud to be a part of next month at 59E59 Theatres. Here's the blurb:

TheaterMania Brown Ambition
A bunch of friends are doing the festival, too, including Desiree Burch, Vicki Ferentinos and Jeff Kreisler. Super!

They listed me in the article's title alongside Austin Pendleton, who has more credits than God, so that definitely gave me a little squee! THIS SHIT BETTER BE GOOD! Haha - it will, it will. I've been drinking the blood of puppies just to pump up for it.

BROWN AMBITION
JULY 19 at 2 pm
JULY 21 and 22 at 9 pm

Get in Bed II

Okay, just got off the phone with Brian and Sara... and Josh - Sara's date for tonight, who agreed to be grilled on air before he and Sara took their relationship any further. Hero! Josh is a total doll who likes showtunes and rap battles..... um, hello? Are you sure he's not my boyfriend, Sara?!

This is me winning The BEATdown, Josh.

King of the World!

Let's battle, son! Bring it!

Anyway, I got a Facebook friend request from a listener while I was on air, and that was lovely. We'll see if I finish this OKCupid profile. Y'all wink at HarlemSnowflake now, ya heard?!

Get In Bed

I'll venture to say almost everyone reading this post is familiar with my friend Sara Benincasa, who hosts a show on Sirius/XM called Get in Bed with Brian and Sara on Cosmo Radio. I had a chance the other night to hang out in the studio and chat with listeners on air, which was a blast, but more importantly, I got to hold a hand-blown glass dildo, while Sara modeled the paperweight/butt plug:

Sirius is a very fun place, filled with musical instruments, recording equipment, a NASA-esque control room that follows the satellites in orbit, and lots and lots of autographs. Here are some I thought were noteworthy:

Jonas Scribble at Sirius
Jonas Bros. Sig.

Miley Cyrus - can you tell I have an 11 year old niece?

Sir Paul's Signature at Sirius
Paul McCartney! (Yeah, his signature is sealed. That ink probably contains the cure to AIDS.)

And here's one that features Gloria Gaynor (My girl! You better survive!), Jason Mraz (I fuffing loooove I'm Yours) and my fellow Miss Rap Supreme castmate (and winner) Rece Steele.

Autograph Wall at Sirius

Related: here's me on the Cipha Sounds/Angela Yee Shade 45 morning show. This still cracks me up.

I'm about to call in to Get in Bed to question a boy Sara has a date with tonight. Will post an update shortly! In the meantime, I'll just be filling out my own OKCupid profile... okay, cupid?! Stick your arrow in my butt.

Back-blogged!

Hey, Internet! I'm a little bit back-blogged, but I'm about to catch up. I've had such high hopes of blogging every day, but honestly, who blogs anymore? Churning out a blog post feels like writing a novel in this day and age of 144 character social networking. I remember when blogging apps were the social networks! (Ow! My sciatica!) Anyway, I have to go take my liver pills now, but I'll be posting this week about the following:

1) AMAZING DIY INDIE GIFTS!
2) BABIES! (COMEDIAN BABIES!)
3) SIRIUS RADIO, EDINBURGH, COMEDY!

Can you stand it?! I can't. That's why I haven't been blogging. But I'm gonna! In fact, my new 30 Day Challenge is going to be to post every day. Every day! Starting today!

HERE'S A CUTE PICTURE OF ME AND MY KID. YOU DESERVE IT!

DO YOU BELONG IN NYC?

Yes, but sometimes you wish there were a better option.

You do love New York, and you fit in here better than you have anywhere else. You're committed to the city, and you take advantage of all of its amazing food, culture, nightlife and arts. But you have nagging doubts about this relationship. Spend your whole life here? Not sure about that. Sometimes you wonder about that farm in your fantasies or even just a smaller city. But in reality, you know there's nowhere better. Click here for suggestions about how to really enjoy NYC.

So, yeah, I've been good, thanks for asking! I've been travelling around a bit, doing some shows in Boston, at The Comedy Studio and Mottley's and at this fun show called The Gas at Great Scott in Allston and Improv Boston's Women in Comedy Festival! As a result, I got mentioned in The Phoenix, Boston's Village Voice. Here are some pictures from my trip:

Boston

Many thanks to Erin Judge (bottom L), Maria Ciampa (top L) and Zach Sherwin!

I also did a fabulous show in Pittsburgh Memorial Day weekend called "Pittsburgh Pundits," which was the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette "2Do" for the evening. I got to perform in the beautiful Cabaret at Theatre Square, run by the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust. Bigg upps to dynamic duo Gab Bonesso and John Macintyre!

Below I've listed where you can see me this weekend. For the rest of June and July check http://myspace.com/carolyncastiglia. (I know, I know, but they have that great calendar...)
